Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Football Insights.
- Accumulator
- A single bet that links multiple selections; all must win for you to get a payout, and the odds multiply together for larger potential returns.
- Asian Handicap
- A handicap given to teams in a match that eliminates the draw as an outcome and adjusts the odds to make both teams equally attractive to bet on.
- Bankroll Management
- A strategy that decides how much of your total funds you risk on each bet to avoid losing everything quickly.
- Bet Slip
- The digital ticket on a betting site that records your selected bets, the stake, and the potential payout before you confirm the wager.
- Bonus
- Extra funds or free bets added to your account, often as a promotion to encourage you to wager more.
- Both Teams To Score (BTTS)
- A bet on whether each team will score at least one goal during the match, regardless of who wins.
- Cash Out
- A feature that lets you settle a bet before the match ends, either locking in a profit or limiting a loss based on the current score.
- Correct Score
- A bet that requires you to predict the exact final score of a match, which offers higher odds because it is harder to guess.
- Double Chance
- A bet that covers two of the three possible outcomes in a match (win/draw, win/lose, or draw/lose) to increase your chances of winning.
- Draw No Bet
- A bet that lets you pick a team to win, but you get your stake back if the match ends in a draw.
- Expected Value (EV)
- The average amount you can expect to win or lose per bet if you placed the same bet many times, calculated from odds and probability.
- First Goalscorer
- A bet on which player will score the first goal in a match, usually offering higher odds than a simple win bet.
- Free Bet
- A bonus token the sportsbook gives you that can be used to place a bet, but any winnings (not the stake) are usually returned.
- Goal Line
- The line set by the sportsbook for total goals in a match, similar to Over/Under but often used for Asian markets.
- In-Play
- The same as live betting, referring to odds and markets available during the course of a match.
- Juice (or Vig)
- The extra fee the sportsbook adds to the odds, which raises the total implied chance of outcomes above 100% and ensures the book makes a profit.
- Live Betting
- Placing bets on events while a match is in progress, with odds that change as the game unfolds.
- Odds
- The number that tells you how much you can win relative to your stake, reflecting the chance the sportsbook thinks an outcome will happen.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals (or points) in a match will be higher or lower than a line set by the sportsbook.
- Parlay
- Another name for an accumulator, a bet that combines two or more selections into one wager with combined odds.
- Rollover
- The total amount of money you must wager before a bonus or free bet becomes cashable, often expressed as a multiple of the bonus.
- Stake
- The amount of money you put on a bet, which determines your potential payout if the bet wins.
- Value Bet
- A bet where the odds offered by the sportsbook are higher than the true probability of the outcome, giving you an edge over time.
- Wagering Requirement
- The number of times you must bet a bonus amount before you can withdraw any winnings derived from it.
